Research Notes on Freudian Theory


Freudian theory is based on the theories and teachings of famous psychologist Sigmund Freud.1 His theories concentrated heavily on the conscious and unconscious mind.1 He also thought that psychosexual development played a big role in how a child matured into an adult, and the resulting problems from it.2

Fast Facts:

  • Freud’s theories include the Oedipus Complex, and lesser known Electra Complex.1
  • “Freudian Slips” are said to be caused by unconscious conflicts over repressed wishes or desires.2
  • Freudian Theory is also called “psychoanalysis”.2
