Research Notes on Food Allergies and Itchy Hands
A food allergy is the body's response to a specific food, when the immune system treats that food as a foreign object. One of the possible symptoms of a food allergy is itching skin around the hands, a condition also known as eczema. Eczema is an inflammation of the skin that results in red, itchy, and dry skin.1

- Around the hands, eczema can be caused by food allergies, dish detergents, general dryness, or even cosmetic cremes.2
- 4% of men and 10% of women have eczema.2
- 75% percent of people with eczema have the condition triggered by direct contact between the hands and the allergen.2
- Itchy hands as a result of a food allergy is rare.2
