Research Notes on Facial Flushing
Flushing or reddening of the face happens because the blood vessels in the specific area dilate.1 It is similar to blushing, which has a milder effect and is generally confined to the cheeks and face.2
Fast Facts:
- Flushing can be cause by many things, including drugs, alcohol, neurological problems and food additives.1
- Neurological flushing can be associated with anxiety, migraines and Parkinson's disease.1
- Some drugs that may result in flushing include tamoxifen, bromocriptine, morphine and calcium channel blockers.1
