Research Notes on Fluphenazine
Fluphenazine is an antipsychotic drug that is used in the treatment of various psychoses including schizophrenia and manic phases of bipolar disorder.1 It is an injection that is primarily given to people with schizophrenia who have shown poor compliance with taking their medications.1 Side effects for fluphenazine include excessive sweating, blurred vision, and dry mouth.2 Fluphenazine works by blocking the effects of dopamine.3 Dopamine, a chemical in the brain, is usually higher in people who have psychotic disorders.3 Fluphenazine is not recommended for children.3
