First aid is the act of providing initial care when there is an accident or injury. First aid can be as basic as the care of a small cut or scrape. There are more serious situations that can arise which require the use of first aid. In these cases, it is helpful to know how to do such things as care for a burn, splint a broken bone, provide CPR, or perform the Heimlich maneuver.
