Research Notes on Fidgeting May Help Children with ADHD to Focus
Children with ADHD (attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder) have difficulty sitting still and often fidget and need to be in constant motion. Studies have shown that allowing a child with ADHD to fidget can help them stay focused on a task. Common movements such as tapping, spinning, and fidgeting in their seats have shown to increase when children with ADHD are trying to concentrate during classes.1 A new study by the University of Central Florida confirms that fidgeting can help kids with ADHD do better in school.2
