Research Notes on Fast Food and Obesity
While obesity in children has tripled since 1970, fast food consumption has risen 500%.1 Some researchers do not believe these two facts are mere coincidence. Research is ongoing, but appears to indicate that the consumption of fast food is related to the growing number of obese children within the United States.1
Fast Facts:
- Over a 15 year period, those who consumed fast food two or more times a week gained an average of 10 pounds more and had twice as much insulin resistance than those who consumed it less than once a week.2
- Obesity can lead to health problems such as diabetes and severe cardiac issues.3
- Exercise can help maintain a healthy weight and lowered health risks.4
