Actress Farrah Fawcett was diagnosed with anal cancer in September of 2006.1 After undergoing treatment that included chemotherapy and radiation, Fawcett was told in early 2007 that she was cancer-free.1 However, three months later, doctors discovered that the cancer had returned, and had spread to her liver.2 Fawcett sought alternative treatment in Germany following the return of the cancer.2 After returning to the United States, Fawcett was admitted to a Los Angeles hospital for treatment of a blood clot.1

Fast Facts:

  • Since her latest release from the hospital, Fawcett's companion, actor Ryan O'Neal, has said she has lost her trademark blonde hair.1
  • In May of 2009, NBC aired a documentary featuring Fawcett as she sought treatment for anal cancer.
  • Anal cancer is considered to be relatively rare. Only an estimated 5,070 new cases were diagnosed in 2008.3
  • Farrah Fawcett passed away on June 25, 2009, at the age of 62.4
