Research Notes on Fabrazyme and Pregnancy
Fabrazyme is considered relatively safe for use during pregnancy. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has listed Fabrazyme as a category B medication. Drugs in this classification have not been well studied during human pregnancy, but have shown little to no additional risk of fetal abnormality when administered to pregnant animals.1
Fast Facts:
- Though the medication is considered relatively safe, no medication should be used during pregnancy unless the benefit to the mother clearly outweighs potential risks to the fetus.2
- Although there is no indication that Fabrazyme is excreted in breast milk, the manufacturer recommends that women who are breastfeeding refrain from using the medication.2
- Fabrazyme is a brand name of the generic medication agalsidase beta.2
