Until then, advances in technology will enable the equipment that is used for testing blood glucose, sensing blood glucose and delivering insulin, to be more appropriate and accurate.
In spite of all these advances which make living with diabetes a bit more manageable and tolerable, the day to day routine of diabetes can be overwhelming. We still have a long way to go in our understanding of how to help people living with this condition better manage the disease while maintaining their quality of life. Education and ongoing support and encouragement are keys to success.Sue McLaughlin, R.D., C.D.E. is the President of Health Care & Education for the American Diabetes Association. She is also a registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator at The Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, where she works with adult and pediatric endocrine patients.
