Research Notes on Esomeprazole Magnesium Is Not Nexium Generic Equivalent
Esomeprazole magnesium is the active ingredient in Nexium, but it is not a generic version of Nexium. Currently there is not a generic version of Nexium available. The first patent for Nexium is still in force, which prevents a generic version of Nexium from being manufactured in the United States.1 The marketing of a generic equivalent is not expected to happen until the year 2014 or later. Often people look for generic versions of a drug to save money on their prescriptions but risk taking unsafe drugs that do not meet FDA quality standards. See Saving Money on Nexium Prescriptions or Nexium Coupons.
