Research Notes on Erythromycin
Erythromicyn is an antibiotic medication that is sometimes recommended in the treatment of various types of bacterial infections. Erythromycin is available in various forms and should be taken exactly as directed. Common side effects associated with the use of erythromycin include: diarrhea, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting, and abdominal pain. Erythromycin belongs to a group of drugs called macrolide antibiotics, which fight bacteria in the body.1

- Erythromycin should not be taken with other medication such as astemizole, cisapride, or pimozide in order to avoid potentially serious drug interactions.2
- Patients using erythromycin should be advised that the medication can sometimes result in a sensitivity to sunlight.2
- Erythromycin is a generic medication that is sometimes sold under the brand names Ery-C, Ery-Tab, and PCE Dispertab.2
