Research Notes on Ercaf and Pregnancy
Ercaf should not be used during pregnancy. 1 Ercaf is a brand name combination drug of caffeine and ergotamine. Caffeine is reported to cross the placenta, and may disrupt the development of the unborn child. Ergotamine also crosses the placenta in minute amounts; however it does not appear to be toxic to the fetus. Still, fetal growth retardation has been observed in animals. There have been no controlled studies regarding the use of Ercaf in pregnancy.2

- Ercaf is a prescription medication commonly used to treat migraine headaches.3
- Ercaf treats a headache in progress. It will not prevent or reduce the number of headaches.3
