Research Notes on Epispadias
An epispadias is a birth defect presenting itself with an abnormality in the opening of the urethra (the tube where urine passes through as it leaves the body). It is rare, occurring only in 1 out of 117,000 newborn males, and 1 out of 484,000 newborn females. Surgical repair is the treatment of choice for epispadias. The surgery involves correcting the flow of urine and reconstructing the urethra for cosmetic appeal.
