Research Notes on Epilepsy Prognosis
Epilepsy is a common chronic neurological disorder that is characterized by recurrent unprovoked seizures. About 50 million people worldwide have epilepsy at any one time. Epilepsy is usually controlled, but not cured, with medication, although surgery may be considered in difficult cases. However, over 30% of people with epilepsy do not have seizure control even with the best available medications. - One important step the patient can take is to wear a medical bracelet indicating that he or she has epilepsy.1
- If one has had only one seizure, the risk of having another is highest in the following 6 months.2
