Research Notes on Epilepsy Prevention
Epilepsy is a neurological brain disorder characterized by seizures. There is no know prevention of epilepsy, however avoiding known triggers may aid in preventing the occurrence of seizures.1 Regular use of anti-seizure medication is the treatment of choice for preventing epileptic seizures.2
Fast Facts:
- With successful treatment, an individual may go years with complete seizure control.2
- In some cases, surgery may be indicated by removing the brain tissue where seizures take place.2
- The risk of having a seizure can be reduced by getting plenty of sleep, having a good diet and avoiding alcohol or drugs.3
