Research Notes on Energy Drinks and Seizures
Energy drinks usually supply energy through large amounts of caffeine and sugar. Consumers can drink one energy drink a day without worry, but drinking more than 400mg of caffeine may be dangerous. Seizures are a possible side effect of consuming too much caffeine through energy drinks.1
Fast Facts:
- Some believe that seizures caused by energy drinks are due to the crash that follows the energy high.2
- Reports of energy drink induced seizures are rare.2
- There is no danger of overcaffeination in one drink, but more than one drink can lead to adverse side effects.1
- Other adverse side effects of consuming too much caffeine through energy drinks include nervousness, irritability, frequent urination, and arrhythmia.1
