Endometriosis is a common medical condition characterized by the growth of tissues resembling endometrium (the tissue lining the uterus) beyond or outside the uterus. There is currently no known cure for endometriosis, though in some patients, menopause (natural or surgical) will abate the process. A hysterectomy and/or removal of the ovaries does not guarantee that the condition and/or the symptoms of endometriosis will not recur.
