End stage liver disease is the final stage where the liver is in the most advanced stages of disease. It can be caused by Chronic hepatitis B and Chronic hepatitis C, diseases of the bile ducts, alcoholic liver disease, autoimmune liver diseases, or buildup of fat in the liver. In children, it can be caused by defects in the liver or bile ducts, metabolic disorders, liver cancer, liver failure from drugs, or it could have been present at birth. A liver transplant may be an option for some people.
