An emotional support animal is an animal who benefits a person through companionship and affection. Owning a pet has proven effective in lowering an owner's blood pressure or stress levels.1 There is some speculation that owners of emotional support animals may abuse their rights of being allowed to bring their pets into public places.2
Fast Facts:
- The law permits disabled or elderly tenants of "no pets" rentals to own an emotional support animal.1
- Emotional support animals do not require special training.1
- Emotional support animals are allowed to accompany owners on airplanes.2
