Research Notes on Emotional Disorders
Emotional disorders (also called behavioral disorders) is a term used for children and adolescents who have difficulties in educational settings. It is possible that a child with an emotional disorder (ED) may also have a disability such as ADHD, autism, or PDD, among others.1 Children with an ED have behaviors that are hostile, aggressive or disruptive for a period of six months or more.2
Fast Facts:
- Children with ED's are at a higher risk for school failure, mental health problems, and suicide.2
- Can be caused by environmental and/or biological factors.3
- Most symptoms related to ED's are treatable.3
