Research Notes on Ears and Hearing
Ears function to allow us to detect sounds as well as keep us in balance. Ears are made up of 3 parts, the outer, middle, and inner ears. All three deal with hearing. The inner ear also helps us with our balance. Hearing loss affects 30 to 40 percent of adults over 65, but can affect people at any age, so regular hearing tests are encouraged.
