Research Notes on Dysthymia and Wellbutrin
Wellbutrin (also sold as bupropion), is used to treat depression and a variety of other mood disorders, such as dysthymia.1 Studies have proven that this medication is an effective treatment for dythymia.2 Side effects of Wellbutrin may include dry mouth, sore throat, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, flushing, headache, loss of appetite, constipation, trouble sleeping, increased sweating, a strange taste in the mouth, joint aches, dizziness, or blurred vision.1

- Wellbutrin can cause seizures, though this is rare.1
- Wellbutrin works by restoring certain neurotransmitters in the brain.1
- Patients with a history of substance abuse are less likely to respond to Wellbutrin treatment.2
