Dysthymia is a less severe, yet more enduring kind of depression.1 It is also known as dysthymic disorder, chronic depression, and minor depression.2 It affects women two to three times more often than men.3
Fast Facts:
- Those with dysthmia are normally gloomy, and have very little happiness.4
- The diagnosis if dysthymia is given when a person has had continual depression for at least two years.5
- In Greek, the word dysthymia means "ill humor" or "bad state of mind."3
- If you are struggling with these symptoms, a simple questionnaire can help you understand how serious your problem might be. Try OrganizedWisdom's quiz: How Severe is My Depression?
