Research Notes on Dysphoria
Dysphoria is an emotional state that is characterized by a general feeling of anxiety or depression.1 It is the opposite of euphoria. Many psychiatric disorders, including anxiety disorders and mood disorders have dyspophoric symptoms.2
Fast Facts:
- A person with dysphoria feels like things are not the way they should be.3
- People with bipolar disorder often suffer from "highs" of dysphoria, as it can be experienced during manic or hypomanic episodes.2
- Dysphoria is a symptom of hypoglycemia.2
- Gender dysphoria is a type of dysphoria where a person feels uncomfortable with their gender or identity.3
