Research Notes on Dupuytren's Contracture

Dupuytren's contracture is also known as Morbus Dupuytren or Dupuytren's disease. Duputren's involves a fixed flexion contracture of the hand where the fingers bend towards the palm and cannot be fully straightened. Dupuytren's contracture usually occurs very gradually.

  • It often runs in families
  • It is associated with certain medical conditions, such as diabetes, thyroid problems, and seizures
  • Occurs in patients older than 50 years
  • The ring finger and little finger are the fingers most commonly affected
