Research Notes on Duloxetine
Duloxetine (Cymbalta) is often prescribed to treat conditions such as depression and generalized anxiety disorder. It is also used to treat chronic pain disorders such as fibromyalgia and neuropathic pain. Duloxetine works by affecting the levels of serotonin and norepinephrine in the brain, and by blocking nerve pain signals.1

- Duloxetin side effects include nausea, insomnia, and dizziness.2
- Duloxetine is in a class of medications called selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SSNRIs).3
- The use of duloxetine with other medicines that can increase the amount of serotonin the body may result in a condition called serotonin syndrome.2
