Research Notes on Drug Poisoning
Drug poisoning is also called medication overdose. It can be caused by harmful effects from certain therapeutic drugs, resulting either from overdose or from the sensitivity of specific body tissues to regular doses (side effects). Safeguards to prevent drug poisoning include testing in animals, then human volunteers, and then patients. Drugs unsafe for self-medication are available only to doctors or by prescription.
