Research Notes on Dristan
Dristan (oxymetazoline) is an over-the-counter medication used to relieve sinus pressure caused by colds, hay fever, allergies, or sinusitis.1 It works by constricting the blood vessels in the nose, leading to a decrease in congestion and increasing drainage.2 Some common side effects include headaches, nervousness, high blood pressure, and insomnia.3
Fast Facts:
- Dristan is available in a 12-hr nasal spray, or a mutli-symptom formula tablet.4
- Dristan should be used with caution in patients with: liver disease, kidney disease, alcoholism, high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, glaucoma, lung disease, thyroid disease, and those who are pregnant.1
- Do not use Dristan in children under the age of six without consulting your physician.1
