Research Notes on Dobutamine
Dobutamine is a medication that is sometimes recommended in order to improve cardiac function and relieve the symptoms of heart failure. Typically given as an intravenous drip, dobutamine is often administered every other day over a period of twelve hours. The length of time a patient receives dobutamine treatment largely depends on the body's reaction to the medication.1
Fast Facts:
- The most commonly reported side effects of dobutamine are increased blood pressure and allergic reaction.2
- Because other medications can negatively interact with dobutamine, consult with a physician or pharmacist before taking any other medication if you have been administered dobutamine recently.2
- Dobutamine is sometimes prescribed by the brand name of Dobutrex.2
