Divalproex is a generic combination drug made up of sodium valproate and valproic acid . Doctors prescribe it for the treatment of the manic episodes of bipolar disorder, and for prevention of both manic and depressive phases of bipolar disorder, especially rapid-cycling bipolar disorder. It is also used to treat epilepsy, chronic pain associated with neuropathy, and migraine headaches.1
