Research Notes on Divalproex Precautions and Warnings
You should be aware of any warnings and precautions before using divalproex (Depakote). Because certain drugs may interact with this medication, you should speak to your health care provider about any medicines you are currently taking. You should also tell your physician about other medical conditions you may have such as blood disorders, liver disease, brain disorders, pancreatitis, or allergies.1

- Taking divalproex is not recommended when you are pregnant, as it could cause birth defects in your unborn child.2
- Diabetics should be aware that this medication can give a ketone urine test a false positive reading.2
- Divalproex is an anticonvulsant typically used for the treatment of epilepsy, manic episodes, and migraine headaches.2
- Possible side effects you may experience while using divalproex include nausea, headache, diarrhea, insomnia, and weight gain.2
