Digital sclerosis is a symptom associated with diabetes mellitus. It affects the "digits" (fingers and toes) and presents a waxy and thick film on the skin. Digital sclerosis may cause stiffness in the digit areas - rarely affects the knee, elbow and ankle areas. 1

  • Treatment: Maintain blood glucose level within the normal limits; moisturizers may aid in softening the skin areas affected 2
  • Digital sclerosis is presented in approximately 1/3 of people who have been diagnosed with Diabetes Type 1 2
