Diabetes is a disorder of metabolism resulting in abnormally high blood sugar levels.1 Abnormally high blood sugar levels can dry out the skin leading to irritation and cracking.2 Proper skin care can prevent and control skin problems caused by diabetes.3

- Diabetes skin problems include scleroderma diabeticorum, vitiligo, and acanthosis nigricans.4
- Use talcum powder on areas where skin touches skin, such as armpits and groin.5
- See a dermatologist if the skin problem persists.5
