Research Notes on Autonomic Neuropathy and Diabetes
Autonomic neuropathy associated with diabetes is linked to uncontrolled high blood sugar. It affects the nerves that control and regulate bodily functions.1 The best treatment for autonomic neuropathy coinciding with diabetes is preventing hyperglycemia through proper diet, exercise, or diabetes treatment.2
Fast Facts:
- The digestive system, urinary system, sex organs, heart, blood vessels, sweat glands, and eyes are part of the autonomic system.2
- Tachycardia, profuse sweating, bloating, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation are symptoms of autonomic neuropathy.3
- A trial resulted in a 60 percent decrease of neuropathy in individuals who managed their blood sugar.3
