Research Notes on Diabetes and Heart Health
Heart disease is the leading cause of death among individuals with diabetes. Over half of all diabetics also have high blood pressure.1 Diabetics with high blood pressure not only have a greater risk of having heart disease, but have a significant risk of having a stroke or kidney disease.2 If you are diabetic, there are several lifestyle changes you can make which will help keep your heart healthy.
Fast Facts:
- It is important for diabetics to not only manage their blood glucose levels, but to also manage their blood pressure and cholesterol.1
- Eating a healthy diet and getting enough exercise is beneficial to both diabetes and heart health.3
- A diabetic nutritionist can help you plan a proper diet by helping you to make wise food choices.3
- Do not smoke, if you already smoke then you should devise a plan to quit.3
