Research Notes on Type 2 Diabetes and Exercise
Exercise is essential in managing the blood sugar of a type 2 diabetic.1 With the rise of deaths caused by type 2 diabetes, exercise and the right diet are the best way to control diabetes.2 Moderate exercise causes your muscles to use stored glucose at higher rates than normal which results in lower blood sugar levels.1
Fast Facts:
- You should refrain from exercising if your blood sugar is too high.1
- Consistent strength training has been found to be as effective as some diabetic medications.3
- It is important to exercise with someone who is aware that you are diabetic in case you have a low blood sugar reaction.1
