Research Notes on Diabetes and Chronic Kidney Disease
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a major concern for people that have diabetes. In fact, diabetes is one of the leading causes of chronic kidney disease.1 Approximately one in three diabetics will develop kidney disease.2
Fast Facts:
- Early detection and treatment of CKD is the key to prevent kidney disease progression which can lead to kidney failure.1
- It is important that diabetics keep their blood glucose levels under control, as high levels of blood sugar will damage the kidneys. 1
- A urine test should be done on a yearly basic to determine if there is any damage to the kidneys. 1
