Research Notes on Diabetes Genetics
Diabetes type 2, which accounts for the vast majority of new diabetes cases, is the subject of much recent genetics research. The genetic factors of type 1 diabetes are reasonably well understood.
Fast Facts:
- Genes alone are not enough to trigger diabetes. An environmental factor is required.
- Whites are more prone to Type 1 diabetes than members of other races.
- People living a Western lifestyle are more prone to Type 2 diabetes.
