Diabetes mellitus type 2 is a disease in which the body does not respond to insulin. It is characterized by high blood sugar levels. For type 2 diabetes, treatment starts with lifestyle modifications including losing weight, quitting smoking, exercising and adopting a healthy, balanced diet.
