Dextroamphetamine should be administered during pregnancy only when the benefits to the benefits to the mother clearly outweigh any potential risks to the fetus. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has listed dextroamphetamine as a category C medication. Although no well-controlled human studies have been performed on pregnant women, animal studies have shown an increased risk of birth defects and miscarriage when dextroamphetamine is administered during pregnancy.¹
