Research Notes on Desvenlafaxine
Desvenlafaxine is an extended-release medication that is used to treat depression.1 It works by increasing the amounts of serotonin and norepinephrine in the brain, two natural substances that are responsible for maintaining mental balance.1 Desvenlafaxine is the first medication of its type to be approved for the treatment of major depressive disorder.2 Common side effects associated with desvenlafaxine use include constipation, loss of appetite, dry mouth, extreme fatigue, difficulty urinating, and unusual dreams.1 Suicidal thoughts have been reported in some people using desvenlafaxine, so if you or a loved one is taking this medication, your situation will be closely monitored by your physician.1

- Potential drug interactions exist when using desvenlafaxine with clorgyline, isocarboxazid, lazabemide, pargyline, phenelzine, procarbazine, rasagiline, selegiline, or tranylcypromine.3
