Dermoid cysts are rare, benign (non-cancerous) tumors that are contained in a thick dermis-like wall. These cysts contain normal, mature tissue such as hair, teeth, bone, nails, eyes, and blood. Most are present at birth, but often are not found or identified until later. They are often, but not always, found in the ovaries or on the head or neck.
