Research Notes on Dermabrasion
Dermabrasion is a procedure in which the skin is sanded to obtain a smoother surface.1 Dermabrasion is used to improve acne scars, pox marks, scars resulting from accidents or disease, tattoo scars, age spots, wrinkles, and skin lesions.2 It is also used to remove pre-cancerous growths called keratoses.3 Dermabrasion can be performed on small areas of skin or on the entire face.3

- Dermabrasion can be used alone or along with other procedures such as a facelift, scar removal or revision, or a chemical peel.3
- Dermabrasion is performed by a dermatologic surgeon or plastic surgeon.2
- Microdermabrasion is a different, superficial technique for minor skin problems.1
