Research Notes on Depression in Men
Depression in men is not uncommon, but men may be unlikely to admit to depressive symptoms and seek help. Research and clinical findings reveal that while both men and women can develop the standard symptoms of depression, they often experience depression differently and may have different ways of coping.1
Fast Facts:
- Men account for only 1 in 10 diagnosed cases of depression.2
- More than 6 million men in the U.S. have at least one episode of major depression each year.3
- Common signs and symptoms of depression include feeling down in the dumps, sleeping poorly, and feeling sad, guilty and worthless.4
