Research Notes on Depression and Chronic Fatigue
Chronic fatigue and depression often coexist. These two disorders are known to cause one another. Depression can lead to fatigue because of the sleeping problems associated with it. Fatigue can lead to depression because of the mental distress it causes. Chronic fatigue and depression are both treatable disorders.1
Fast Facts:
- Even mild depression can cause fatigue.2
- Studies show that depressed people are more than four times more likely to experience fatigue than those who are not depressed.3
- People who experience fatigue are up to three times more likely to develop depression than those who are not.3
- Though depression and fatigue are separate conditions with separate risk factors, many of their symptoms overlap.3
