Research Notes on Depakote and Insomnia
One of the side effects of taking Depakote (divalproex) is insomnia.1 Approximately 15 percent of those who use Depakote for seizures experience insomnia.2 Depakote was less common for those who take Depakote to treat other conditions.2 If insomnia becomes a problem for you, consult with your doctor for treatment options.

- Depakote is used to treat bipolar disorder, migraines, and epilepsy.1
- Avoid caffeine and alcohol at least six hours prior to bedtime if you are taking Depakote and have insomnia.2
- If your insomnia persists, your doctor may recommend switching medications.
