Dental Anesthesia in Children

GuideWisdom™

This WisdomCard managed by: Tara Salamone

Young children are often unable to manage the sound of drilling, the fear of pain, and separation from parents when they visit a dentist. At times, oral sedatives combined with nitrous oxide are used in older children; but it is better and safer to have a general anesthetic (means that the child is asleep). Many parents fear the use of anesthesia may bring problems for the child. Studies show that care given by a pediatric anesthesiologist decreases risk toxicity and complications to the child.
