Research Notes on Demerol and Pregnancy
Demerol should only be used during pregnancy when the benefits to the mother clearly outweigh any potential risks to the fetus. Fast Facts:
- Demerol has also been noted to cause drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, difficulty breathing, and low blood pressure in women when used during pregnancy.2
- Demerol has been known to be excreted in the breast milk of nursing mothers and it may be harmful to a nursing infant.3
