Research Notes on Degenerative Myelopathy in Dogs
Canine degenerative myelopathy (also known as chronic degenerative radiculomyelopathy) is a neurological disease common in German Shepherds, Welsh Corgis, and possibly occurring in other breeds. The disease is chronic and progressive, and can result in lameness in the animal. The disease usually manifests between the ages of five and fourteen. ...more from Wikipedia

- May also occur in other breeds, such as Siberian Huskies and other large breeds.1
- Diagnostic tests are performed mainly to rule out other causes of slowly progressive weakness and lack of coordination.2
- The early stages start with an almost imperceptible weakness in the hindquarters.3
- Symptoms are a progressive weakness and ataxia of the hindquarters, which may come and go, or just get steadily worse.4
